What is an FTP Account ?
- an FTP Account allows you to use an ftp client to upload and download files and data to and from your account. An example would be that you use website design software on your computer to design your website. To be able to upload it to your hosting account so other people can see it, you use software such as AceFTP to connect your home/work computer to our hosting servers, enabling the world to see your website. Pretty cool hey!
SQL Database thingymajig…..???
- To enable some websites to function, they need to be driven by what we call a SQL Database. An example of a website that uses a database is WordPress, which is freely available blog that you may install via Fantastico, found in your cPanel, along with other scripts such as blogs, eCommerce stores etc. For a list of all the goodies you get, go HERE.
What is a Sub-Domain ?
- Well, you know that your website name (domain name) is, for example - www.forexample.com. OK. A Sub-Domain replaces the WWW at the beginning of your domain name. An example would then be, sub.forexample.com. You can call your sub domain whatever you want to. As another example, when 13Host.com.au manages to host at least 1000 domain names, we’ll be offering Live Support, so we will establish livesupport.13host.com.au.
You can park a domain ?
- Well, yes. Let’s say you are setting up a franchise business and you’ve registered your .com domain name. To protect that domain name, you may also wish to consider registering the .com.au, .net.au inequivalent. Instead of leaving it sit idle, why not ‘point’ it to your website that you have hosted. This way, if customers type in you .com.au domain name, they will automatically be diverted to your website ! How cool is that?
OK. I get it. But an Addon Domain?
- Here’s where it gets interesting. Let us pretend you are setting up a franchise again. If for example your .com domain name features all of your products / services, you may wish to utilize your .com.au domain name by using as a corporate website, providing visitors or prospective franchisees with enough information about joining your franchise system. many companies do this. It also gives your business a very professional look.
